The 2nd Years had an incredible experience learning about Humboldt's coastal dune ecosystems with Friends of the Dunes leader Justin Legge and Ms. Holtski, Mr. Freeman, Mr. King, Mr. Stephens, and Ms. Poust! This morning 4th Year Raya Ghaffari was recognized as Girl of the Month by the Soroptimist Club of Humboldt Bay! Raya shared her inspiring story and her accomplishments at AR. The Academy of the Redwoods are the 2024 Coast League Champions!!! Defeating Zoe Barnum 30-23 in the Championship, this is AR's first ever 1st Place Trophy! Led by Coach Lynsey Molina, the seniors on this team have been devoted leaders since the beginning. The last community meeting of the 23/24 academic year was jam packed! Fortuna Rotary presented a check to REBAR, Drama club did a fabulous skit, Tanayah and Zoe talked about their Fellowship to save the planet, Jacob introduced ARUS, and Lovely sang! Led by Neo it was a grand time!

AR's Biology class makes Upcycled Projects to learn about how plastics and waste impact the carbon cycle. Students built their upcycled projects from reused materials that would have otherwise been recycled or thrown away. #academyoftheredwoods #fuhsd #scienceisfun

Bryanna Lopez-Tejeda is AR’s Student of the Month for April! Bryanna is the daughter of Emeria Tejeda and Wenceslao Lopez. In her spare time, Bryanna enjoys creating art, playing video games (Stardew Valley in particular), and ranting about her current interests. To date, Bryanna has earned 26 college credits and is on pace to complete 33.5 credits by the end of this semester. In the fall, Bryanna plans to attend Cal Poly Humboldt to major in Marine Biology with a minor in art. After college she hopes to find a job in Humboldt County and explore her interest in art on the side. Of her time at AR, Bryanna says, “It has been freeing and incredibly rewarding with the college classes we can take. It allowed me to pursue my interests at a higher level. It has opened up many doors for me and I'm thankful for that.”
